All about VOGUE style

Vogue dance (Vogue) is based on the elements of model poses and graceful gait on the catwalk. This dance style is full of plastic movements, extravagance and individuality.

Origins of Vogue Dance
Vogue originated in the 70’s in New York City, but was not particularly popular in those years because it was a closed party. These were the so-called “Vogue balls”, where members of the LGBT community gathered under one roof and felt as free and safe as possible. Given that racism and homophobia were rampant at the time, these were the only places where creative people could express themselves.

The dance has a lot to do with Vogue magazine, even its name came from that magazine. The fact is that the community of ballroom has always dreamed of a beautiful, rich life, so inspiration was sought in fashion magazines (including VOGUE) and in film, and thanks to the dancers, the models’ poses from the glossy came to life.

How did it evolve?
Vogue all over the world was developed solely by dancers. In America, it wasn’t originally a dance trend.

Interestingly, there was no specific inspirer for this trend. But the cult figures, which strongly influenced the development of this trend was very much. These are mothers and fathers of the first VOGUE houses, who were at the origins of the culture (Pepper LaBeija, Willi Ninja, Angie Xtravaganza and others). There were also strong representatives of VOGUE houses who led and commented on the events connected with fashion shows: Paris Dupree, Dorian Corey.

So, at first the guys were dancing in clubs using different poses, then it all moved to the VOGUE balls. With time there were additional elements and dance categories (before there were only FASHION-categories).

Modern VOGUE was born in the ballroom. You can be yourself at the ball and you are not afraid of condemnation from the outside world. At the ball you do not dream of being a star, you are a star! Thanks to the competition at balls, the guys get new ideas for images, new tricks.

VOGUE is not a choreographic movement. It is an underground movement filled with improvisation and performance art. But in classes at the dance studio teacher sometimes gives small elements of choreography (bundles) to show the connection of the elements. The principal difference of this dance from other dance styles is that vogers can make a show out of anything. They know how to create and reveal the image, to present themselves.

There are no special suits for vog. If we talk about training, any sportswear is fine. And if we’re talking about balls, the costume depends on the theme of the event. There is always a huge number of images: from rapper clothes to gladiatorial armor – you can definitely express yourself. As for VOGUE shoes, you can wear sneakers and heels to workouts. Without shoes VOGUE do not dance at all. Usually use heels of different heights for Runway (model gait ) and Vogue Femme (dance sub-style).
