Breaking dance is a dance movement that combines acrobatics and plastics. The main features of the dance are improvisation, energy and incendiary performance. Break dance belongs to the hip hop culture, it requires from the dancer a good physical training, acting skills and sense of rhythm. As a result, the finished dance demonstrates not only endurance, but also helps to splash out energy, to convey to the audience emotions. It is not surprising that many novice fans of break dance are interested in where the trend appeared and who was its founder.

In the 60’s in the U.S., people began to appear on the streets who were doing unusual moves to the music. Dancers from New York, many believe it was the Bronx, combined a sharp fall with elements of rapid rotation, calling such a process “Good Foot” by the name of the record of the great musician D. Brown. Subsequently, dj Kool Herc called the dance B-boying, from B-boy. DJ was spinning records at street parties and saw in person how vibrant and active unusual dance moves turn out. The dancers were mostly guys who performed movements to broken rhythms, hence the name “breakbeat”. Gradually, the “beat” “separated” and formed a more logical name – break dance.

Up until the early 80s, the direction evolved, there were ardent fans who used only certain movements in the dance. Many, understanding what break dance, thought that the dancer of this direction should be able to do more. One of the first to stand out from the crowd of fans of break was a team called Rock Steady Crew (RSC) – the dancers were able to combine all the styles of hip-hop with each other and give each choreographic element a unique trait. The dancers began to use more acrobatics, and Crazy Legs, one of the members of the group, introduced tricks to the community of fans – energetic windmills and the original back spins.

Ironically, an important contribution to the formation of break-dance made movies about martial arts. Many dancers have tried to apply dance bindings techniques from kung fu, actively moving his arms, legs, sharply raising the body.

Many believe that a special variety of dance introduced by immigrants who settled in New York City in the period 60-70 years of the last century. Some express the view, doing for many years of breakdancing, that this is a dance formed from parts of the choreography of the people of different nationalities. For example, Africans influenced the formation of the beat rhythm, they also introduced the tradition of “dancing in a circle.

From the very founding of the direction became clear that breakdance is not an example of accuracy and logic, it is a personal expression of skill, physical fitness and emotion. Therefore, if the formation of groups of dancers, break fans, each of them imparted its own style and manner of choreography. Initially, the style of break-dance in the general concept was divided into upper and lower movements. For example, the top break is characterized by techniques:

  • Animation – the earliest style, conveying the broken movements of animated puppets.
  • Waving – experienced a real peak in the 90’s and popular to this day, is the transfer of wave motions hands.
  • Slowmo – slow motion, they appeared in the mid-80s, when breaking began to actively show in the movies and broadcasts.
  • Bottom break consists of movements on the shoulder blades, back or/and head – it is believed that they appeared in the early days of dance. By the bottom can be attributed and fly – a circular movement with his feet.

Today, breakdancing has a staggering popularity. In the late 80’s, the dance began to appear in commercial projects – on TV shows, in commercials and music videos. Gradually the direction became part of show business and spread throughout Europe.

Jazz dance is the oldest type of choreography on the list. As you can guess it is danced under the jazz music or music with such motifs. Jazz dance emerged later than the music in this style, in order to be more comfortable to move in jazz invented special shoes, which were called – jazz shoes, both male and female version of the shoes between themselves is quite similar, since jazz often enough found tapping, flicks, step, the shoes has a small wide heel. Once this dance could be found in public eating places with live jazz music, where everyone could dance jazz for fun, at that time, the dance had no name, only later he was given a broad meaning and made to the styles and varieties of choreography. Its origin, oddly enough, jazz comes from Africa. Of course, today it is difficult to recognize in the current jazz the old original jazz, by the way back then jazz was performed in pairs, but this trend has not continued, today jazz is performed solo or in groups, but not in pairs.

Art Nouveau dance – is a type of choreography that arose due to the classic choreography, the whole base of the style of modern dance consists of ballet base. Art Nouveau style has clear lines of hands and feet, all the classical positions are performed in the same way as in ballet, only in some moments there are parallel and not rotated lines. As for the form of clothing and costumes, shoes in which dance modern dance, there is no certain obligations, modern loves ease and simplicity, as much as possible close to nature, so most often dancing modern barefoot or half-cheeked that cover only toes .

Jazz Art Nouveau, as you might guess is a combination of two styles – jazz and modern, so it came later, the performance of this genre of dance is almost no different from modern, there is much less jazz in it.

Dance school, which has a modern, must have a part of the classical performance lessons, and ideally it would be for the class had a separate lesson, because only then the dancer can perform perfectly modern, when he knows the basic rules of classical ballet.

What is the basis of jazz modern
In order for this style of choreography to look top notch, dancers must have full command of their bodies, have good stretching, plasticity, jumping and coordination. Although jazz modern and was born out of ballet, but it belongs to the modern choreography, so the improvisation also has a place, as in all other contemporary street dance. In addition to this began its existence and the so-called jazz ballets or jazz modern ballets that have become in a fairly short time is not less popular than the classical ballets that exist for several centuries.

Contemporary dance is based on the synthesis of dance styles and techniques of the 20th and early 21st centuries, primarily European and American “modern” and “postmodern” dance. The basis of these styles is classical ballet. Classical ballet has undergone many changes in the course of modern and postmodern, gradually changing and freeing itself from the strict frameworks of ballet.

Contemporari, or the colloquial abbreviation contempo, is very difficult to describe in any one definition. Historically, the beginning of the contemporaneous era is considered to be the 1950s of the 20th century, which is marked by the late work of Merce Kennigham, Jose Limon and Marie Wigman. The contemporaneous technique is characterized by the release of the body: both the body and the arms, legs, feet and hands. There are no canons that dictate in what position this or that part of the body should exist. Contemporari is also characterized by the work in the parterre, the numerous down and up, jumping into the parterre, etc. It can be said that contemporari is trying to use the resource of the body as much as possible, the body is perceived as a tool, as an object, through the body the dancer and choreographer talk to the audience.

At the present stage, contemporari is a very open trend: each choreographer can take one or another technique, or the principles of this or that choreographer, whether it’s ballet, modern or postmodern, as a basis for the style of their choreography. But to let these techniques pass through your body and “give out” a new manner, your interpretation, your language. Now we can observe the combination of contemporaries with other dance styles and trends: jazz, hip-hop, afro and others. The influence of contact improvisation on contemporari dance is very important because any work with a partner is based on the principles of contact improvisation. There are many techniques that explore human anatomy and build movements that are anatomically correct for the body, i.e., that do not harm muscles and joints. For example, the Alexander technique, the Franklin method, the Feldenkrais method. Many choreographers use the principles of these techniques in their choreography.

It is impossible not to mention the influence of modern technology on contemporaneous dance, which is also included in the synthesis of this trend: video row, computer technology, video installation, experiments with sound and light, cybernetics – all this can find a combination with dance. At the same time, there is an increasing number of choreographers who have been satiated by technical innovations, and strive for a clean, authentic, natural element in man and in movement, respectively.

Contemporary dance is a movement, which is characterized by a large degree of openness: in the choice of movements, in the interpretation, in the performance. A person must be open to receive new experiences. The more experience in the body of the dancer, the clearer he can express his own emotions and the task set by the choreographer.

The rumba attracts attention with its original movements filled with flirtation and passion. But did the unrestrained emotions of two lovers really form the basis of this dance? The history of the style conceals interesting moments, about which we propose to learn right now.

Rumba is a multicultural phenomenon. Speaking in modern language, it is a separate subculture, like the dancers, hippies, etc. It’s a conversation about the unity of music and dance, with the melody setting the rhythm for the dancers.

Those who are barely familiar with this dance style may have the impression that it is a dance of love and passion. But it is not. The real Cuban rumba – it is a celebration, joy and desire to enjoy life. The lyrics of the songs revolve around two themes: politics and social order. There is little love, but a lot of energetic movement and frenzied rhythm, which is set by the African drums.

Where then did the distorted perception of the dance come from? Thanks to the style’s conferral of international status. The ballroom rumba features calmer, more romantic music and more graceful choreography. Watching the dancers flirting on the stage, one can feel sadness and melancholy for the lost love.

But the features of the rumba do not end there. Cuban direction is divided into three types, each of which is endowed with specific features.

Guaguanco is the most common rumba. It resembles a flirtation between two partners. In this case, the man tries to touch

Yambu – the oldest rumba, where also at the forefront is the flirting of the partner with his partner. But it is much gentler and less impertinent than the Guaguanco.

Colombia. Unlike previous varieties, this rumba arose in the rural areas of Cuba. The style stands out for its fast pace, vigor and mandatory presence of the male solo dancer.

In general terms, the rumba is:

Pair dance;
spectacular movements of the hips, body and arms;
Special atmosphere of the tropics, disposed to rest and bliss on the ocean.

In the U.S., talk about the rumba among the population were heard as early as 1914. But no one really liked the dance. It took about 20 years for the style to take on a new form called the “American rumba. A kind of rebirth of the genre occurred under the influence of jazz – the choreography was filled with simpler figures and a clear rhythm of steps.

Europeans owe the appearance of the rumba in their homeland to dance teacher Pierre Lavelle. Traveling through Cuba, he was so inspired by the country’s dance culture that he could not leave it without the attention of his students in London. The style caused heated controversy among the prim English, but that didn’t stop it from being standardized in 1955. By the way, in addition to the rumba, Lavelle enriched the culture of the Old World with the cha-cha-cha.

The Viennese waltz refers to the ballroom dances of Europe. Its movements are similar to the slow waltz, but it is performed with greater speed and complemented by an emphasis on the first bar. The musical size is three-quarter. Each measure consists of three steps, as in the slow, the first step will determine the second step, during the second step dancers must make a turn of 180 degrees. The third step consists only of sticking a free leg.

Partners lower part of the body minimally separated from each other, in the upper part of the partner is deflected, creates a shape. The partner should create conditions in which his partner can make free movements. If the “right” waltz is performed, the partner deviates to the right and the first step begins with the right foot.

What you need to pay first attention:

In the first measure, the first step is performed between the partner’s legs and not past, because this execution of the step allows for the most effective turn;
The difference in the movements of the partners should be one measure, the exception is the figure waltz, which may have additional figures in the set of movements.

Forward Movement
The first step begins “with the heel”, the foot turned to the right – “right waltz”, the second step complements the first, during its execution partner “bypasses” the partner. The complexity of the second step directly depends on the first, because, as already mentioned, the total turn should be 180 degrees, the last step is the third. It is just putting the foot.

Backward movement
It begins with the left foot and the partner steps with the right foot, as described a few lines above. The first step of the partner in the second measure should coincide with the step of the partner, she, in turn, is oriented on the partner. The second step completes the corner, the leg which has remained free, attached to the third step.

The ballroom dancing championship always contains in its program a Viennese waltz, with the obligatory figures are considered:

Natural and Reverse Fleckerle;
Reverse and natural turns;
Forward-backward change;
Check (transition) from inverse fleur-de-lis to natural.
A large role belongs to the interaction of partners, the staging of their bodies, as well as their hands.

History of Origins
“The predecessors” of the Viennese waltz, were very chaste. The partner was usually at a great distance from the partner, and the touch was made only by the fingertips.

When the waltz that we already know came into being, the dancers and the adult society treated it with skepticism and considered it vulgar. But young people happily embraced the innovation.

After the final victory over Napoleon, the Congress of the Allies was convened in Austria (Vienna) in 1815. The countries celebrated their victory and the new dance sparkled at the balls. It was at this time that the Viennese waltz acquired an emphasis on the first measure, no matter how much secular society resisted, it took its triumphant place.

]]>
When slave traders of the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries brought slaves from Africa on sailing ships, they thought only of how to make money from cheap labor. But along with the new people, elements of a foreign culture – dances, songs, rhythms – came to the American continent. Originating in the dry, hot climate of Africa, samba formed and took shape as a separate movement in South America. From there it has penetrated into the European continent.

Information about the origin of the dance is contradictory. Some sources say it originated in the 17th century in the Pedra do Sal neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, where there was a large slave market. Others point to the state of Bahia in eastern Brazil as the birthplace. Over time, samba took root in the big cities, penetrated into remote areas, small villages and became the national Brazilian dance.

Where the word samba came from is uncertain. There are several versions:

1) from the Angolan “semba” (so called one of the basic elements of ritual African dance);

2) from the word “saamba” from the language group of the nationalities of Congo (this term meant a ritual “initiation”, when a person received a new social status in the community);

3) from the African “kumba” (“to love”, “beloved”).

In addition to the utilitarian, there is a poetic interpretation of the word samba. Sometimes the term is translated as “sadness, longing for the homeland.

It reflects the spirit of Brazilians, their mood, philosophy of life, national character. People of Brazil believe that a foreigner can not reliably convey all the movements of this truly popular dance, as a representative of the Brazilian people is unlikely to dance Kamarinskaya. In either case, we will get a pathetic copy of the original.

Originally, the African dance was supposed to be a solo performance – paired elements appeared in it, thanks to the European cultural tradition.

Samba first appeared in the eastern (coastal) regions of Brazil. Gradually, the dance evolved, penetrating into the large cities and small villages. Like any folkloric phenomenon, it became variable, acquiring specific local features. In this regard, samba can be compared with the development of language: there is a literary version of speech, and there are local dialects, which may not be understood by a resident of another area. The same metamorphosis happened with the dance. Urban samba is not the same as in the countryside; the dance of one region of Brazil is very different from another.

Of course, such a rousing and free dance could only take root in a country with a warm climate, where the average annual temperature does not drop below 20°C. Brazil was a fertile place, where samba put down strong roots, but also was enriched by the traditions of the European waltz, as well as rock ‘n’ roll and disco.

Dancing online has become a full-fledged training format. You can leave all doubts in the past and start to enjoy the new dance reality. The problem is how to effectively practice dance when you are not with a teacher at the same point in time and space.

The most naive way of learning, which in most cases does not work – is a group class live in the canons of offline. The buzz of a group class lies in the atmosphere of the room, the close presence of other people, the physical charisma of the instructor who does everything here and now. There’s none of that in an online class.

Why bring everyone together at one point in time if everyone can choose a more appropriate moment? What changes if a student does an assignment or exercise not when the instructor is doing it elsewhere, too, but a little later? In the auditorium, the teacher sees the student, and feedback access is close.

The first gain in organizing your online learning begins with the moment of choice. This is all present already in the classic approaches of online courses and training programs. The student not only has the opportunity to choose a topic and any instructor he could reach, but also to decide for himself when, how much, and how often he will study.

The choice of location plays an important role. Economy of movement around the city, the lack of unnecessary additional factors and other things also go to the plus side of this format.

Conventional courses imply the presence of blocks and modules that can be combined. For example, on a simple basic level you can track your dance growth. To the limitations of this format can include a lack of feedback and problems with motivation, which in real life from the moment you go out to the studio is already solved by itself. As opposed to a very tempting couch or chair that you don’t want to get up from.

There are many strategies for how to use online effectively when conducting individual classes. Again, don’t repeat the mistakes of those who literally move the offline format to online. Let’s think together about how face-to-face meetings can be used effectively.

First, the teacher’s task would include a deeper examination of what the student wants to get out of it. That is, simply entertaining or doing something while practicing for an hour will not work. The instructor will need to get a video or request from the student and then get to work.

Second, the level of personalization will be not only in the ability to discuss general topics, but also in the competent preparation of a set of exercises with clear criteria for development. Working with individual blockages is the value of personal work.

Third, the possibility of deferred questions and answers allows you to communicate not here and now, but in a format of contact in which the teacher and the student respond at a time when it is convenient for them. It also gives time for more extensive preparation of the answer or assignment.

The tango originated in Argentina. It was a folk dance that was performed in the streets and bars. The history of the tango tells us that originally this dance was performed exclusively by men. Over time, it became a pair dance, and its striking feature since ancient times is a pronounced male style of leading. A woman is fully submissive to a man; she follows where her partner leads her, and the success of learning depends largely on how much she is ready to trust, open up, and be led.

The history of the development of dance distinguishes a variety of styles and types. The most common two of them – Argentine Tango and Tango European program of ballroom dancing.

Argentine Tango refers to the social dance, the essence of which is to be able to perform it with different partners, to enjoy the process, to communicate, to attend milongas – special meetings of admirers. Argentine tango is considered more authentic, refers to those dances that keep the old traditions in the music to which they are performed. As a rule, the background music here has a very specific and memorable sound. It cannot be confused with anything else, because it uses a limited set of musical instruments. It is enough to visit a milonga once, and you will immediately understand if you are attracted to this dance.

The second type of tango is a dance that is part of the European program of ballroom dancing. It is performed by professional and amateur athletes at competitions and contests. This tango is taught in schools and ballroom dance studios, and during his performance on the floor in front of the audience must be in special costumes. There are certain requirements for the European ballroom tango in the performance of certain elements. They are regulated and are mandatory for the dancers. Their correct execution is judged by the judges at dance competitions.

Many people, having mastered the first steps, want to learn how to dance tango at home. However, it is not always effective, because the opportunity to dance with an experienced partner or a professional teacher’s help is of great importance in understanding the nature of the dance. For harmonious performance of tango requires understanding partner’s needs; often when choosing a step or a turn a man improvises, and the task of a partner is to capture his desires exactly and follow them. This understanding can be achieved only with regular, sometimes even daily training. If you do not have the opportunity to attend a dance school, online lessons that will tell you how to learn the tango by yourself can help.
