After all, it is through the language of dance and light alluring movements can say what is sometimes impossible to express in words, telling about the most secret thoughts and desires. Dancehall is a dance style that comes from the exotic Jamaica. The structure of energetic dancing in this style is based on reggae rhythm. You can learn the basic movements of dancehall at our dance school. During the class you will burn a lot of calories to stimulating sounds of incendiary music.

Dancehall dance steps are based on isolated and smooth movements of the whole body. While studying them you will feel more confident and attractive and learn to control your body well. Energetic and expressive dance allows you to loosen up and get rid of clamps. At its core – circular movements of the hips, shaking and “waves” the whole body.

From the history of Dancehall
The style originated in the 1960s in the ghetto of Kingston (the capital of Jamaica), a city located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. The dance was originally performed by men, but nowadays everyone – men, women and even children – do it. It is an expression of emotion, a way to cope with problems and stress and even a kind of spiritual practice for the people of Jamaica.

Dancehall is considered a street dance for a reason: its name means the space where the dance parties take place, and this can be courtyards, markets and just streets. In general, it can be engaged anywhere there is a free flat area.

It is impossible to talk about dancehall without mentioning the inextricably linked to it reggae music, which actually gave birth to this style. By the 80’s it has developed into an independent direction, gaining many fans around the world. The founder of this trend in music was Bob Marley. Music to dancehall, which sometimes mistakenly called “reggae”, but it differs in a faster tempo.

Description and characteristics of the dance
Both women and men practice dancehall, but the two dances are slightly different. The steps in the male version are based on strong, aggressive movements. They consist mainly of energetic chest movements, from the rotation of the hands, with the fingers folded “pistol”, from beating out the rhythm of a straight leg (cow foot). It is a dance that symbolizes strength and energy. In Jamaica, men can only dance this way; women can choose to dance both male and female steps.

The female style is called Dancehall Female and Dancehall Queen Style. It is more sensual and “soft. It is full of sexy-feminine movements such as shaking the buttocks (twerking), swaying the hips and undulating body movement. Dancehall Queen Style is a dance that is additionally enriched with acrobatic elements (such as wiggling the buttocks while sitting on the splits or standing on the head). Every year in Jamaica, a contest is held for the best dancer, who subsequently receives the nickname “Dancehall Queen”. It’s a real celebration of women.

Vogue dance (Vogue) is based on the elements of model poses and graceful gait on the catwalk. This dance style is full of plastic movements, extravagance and individuality.

Origins of Vogue Dance
Vogue originated in the 70’s in New York City, but was not particularly popular in those years because it was a closed party. These were the so-called “Vogue balls”, where members of the LGBT community gathered under one roof and felt as free and safe as possible. Given that racism and homophobia were rampant at the time, these were the only places where creative people could express themselves.

The dance has a lot to do with Vogue magazine, even its name came from that magazine. The fact is that the community of ballroom has always dreamed of a beautiful, rich life, so inspiration was sought in fashion magazines (including VOGUE) and in film, and thanks to the dancers, the models’ poses from the glossy came to life.

How did it evolve?
Vogue all over the world was developed solely by dancers. In America, it wasn’t originally a dance trend.

Interestingly, there was no specific inspirer for this trend. But the cult figures, which strongly influenced the development of this trend was very much. These are mothers and fathers of the first VOGUE houses, who were at the origins of the culture (Pepper LaBeija, Willi Ninja, Angie Xtravaganza and others). There were also strong representatives of VOGUE houses who led and commented on the events connected with fashion shows: Paris Dupree, Dorian Corey.

So, at first the guys were dancing in clubs using different poses, then it all moved to the VOGUE balls. With time there were additional elements and dance categories (before there were only FASHION-categories).

Modern VOGUE was born in the ballroom. You can be yourself at the ball and you are not afraid of condemnation from the outside world. At the ball you do not dream of being a star, you are a star! Thanks to the competition at balls, the guys get new ideas for images, new tricks.

VOGUE is not a choreographic movement. It is an underground movement filled with improvisation and performance art. But in classes at the dance studio teacher sometimes gives small elements of choreography (bundles) to show the connection of the elements. The principal difference of this dance from other dance styles is that vogers can make a show out of anything. They know how to create and reveal the image, to present themselves.

There are no special suits for vog. If we talk about training, any sportswear is fine. And if we’re talking about balls, the costume depends on the theme of the event. There is always a huge number of images: from rapper clothes to gladiatorial armor – you can definitely express yourself. As for VOGUE shoes, you can wear sneakers and heels to workouts. Without shoes VOGUE do not dance at all. Usually use heels of different heights for Runway (model gait ) and Vogue Femme (dance sub-style).

Jazz-funk dancing https://www.settimanainternazionaledelladanza.it/jazz-funk-dancing/ Sun, 22 Mar 2020 07:30:00 +0000 https://www.settimanainternazionaledelladanza.it/?p=23 Jazz-funk - this is one of the youngest and most popular modern dance styles, which combines elements of hip-hop and strip plastique, wog and vakings, jazz and pop choreography.

Jazz-funk – this is one of the youngest and most popular modern dance styles, which combines elements of hip-hop and strip plastique, wog and vakings, jazz and pop choreography. It is expression, provocation, contrast of sharp and smooth movements, entertainment and mannerism.

Absorbing the most striking and spectacular features of the whole spectrum of dance styles, jazz-funk quickly gained popularity throughout the world. Today jazz-funk is constantly used in the music videos and dance routines of modern pop stars like Beyonce, Britney Spears, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson.

If you are looking for the perfect way to express yourself and want to learn how to dance and improvise on stage, to develop flexibility and strengthen the muscles of the whole body, if you are ready to give out on every lesson emotionally and physically to the maximum, jazz funk – the direction for you!

Teaching jazz-funk does not require special training and has no age restrictions.

Jazz-funk as a dance movement was born in the 1990s in the United States. American dancer and choreographer Brian Friedman, who was engaged at that time arranging dance numbers for Britney Spears tour, timed to coincide with the release of the singer’s new album, tried to combine the classic jazz and elements of hip-hop, house and swing in order to make the choreography as spectacular as possible, and clearly reflect the dynamic music to which it is performed.

Another “father” of this trend is considered the American choreographer Bobby Newberry, who has worked with some of the brightest and most outrageous stars of the American stage, such as Eminem, Pink and others. Bobby Newberry’s master classes to this day draw huge audiences around the world.

The origin of the name – jazz-funk – still raises a lot of questions, because this direction has nothing to do with jazz music.

Jazz-funk – a dance which combines elements of hip-hop and jazz technique, vaqing and many other areas. Jazz-funk can not exhaust itself, it will only evolve. It absorbs the new styles (waacking, voguelocking, king tut) and returns to the old (classical, ballet). Jazz-funk gathered all the “cream” of jazz, hip-hop, Latin and other directions. Fantastic club mix, smooth and sharp movements, crisp lines, turns, incredible combinations, the ability to dance to any music.

Benefits of jazz funk:

  • Strengthening all muscle groups and improving posture;
  • stimulation of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems;
  • development of the musculoskeletal system, the vestibular apparatus and coordination;
  • development of grace, flexibility and plasticity;
  • expression of emotional state through the art of improvisation;
  • increase self-confidence and formation of creative thinking;
  • getting rid of stress, charging positive emotions and good mood.
